Location – 9/10 AMAZING views! Truly breathtaking views from nearly every where at Dhankar Monastery Guest House (except our room). Nothing much else is around but that’s fine… you don’t need it! It’s time to relax and explore. Dhankar Gompa is a short walk and Dhankar Lake is a couple of hours all round trek. Definitely worth doing!

Facilities – 2/10 Our room lacked facilities but that was fine as it was a short transit stop. There was no Wi-Fi, no cellular signal.  Our room had a table and clothes storage.

Value – 5/10 We paid for our stay here as part of our package with Great Escapes so I am unable to give an accurate score for value. I do know however that the room for two people per night is RS 800 as the guy tried to charge us when we left until we explained that it has already been paid for. I personally would not pay more than RS 600 as it is a basic budget accommodation.

Cleanliness – 3/10 Our room was tidy and clean but the bathroom was a bit shocking. We were scared to use the shower incase we got electrocuted… Live wires held together by cellotape ABOVE running water isn’t a good idea… neither is having loose dangling live wires around the shower where water splashes.

Comfort – 2/10 This was the worst night sleep for both of us in a long time! I’ve had more comfort by sleeping on the ground before… And perhaps that’s what I should have done. It was pointless having a bed as it served no other purpose than to raise you off the floor. The room had potential though and was cosy…

Overall – 4.2/10 Overall, it is only good as a transit point for 1-2 nights. Dhankar Gompa is a very small walk away and you can also take a small trek up to Dhankar Lake which is great. The views and location are fantastic and are what makes this place special. It is a budget accommodation so you can’t expect too much. The restaurant food was quite good, but expensive for what you get. Staff were kind of “meh”… I sensed a bit of attitude or lack of care but never mind. Wouldn’t hurry back, next time I would rather try a home stay.
